In conjunction with cognitive therapy one can apply various other methods to help them on the road to a quicker recovery. Going a holistic and alternative route is far better and far gentler on the person’s psyche which is already traumatized. It is imperative that these patients desensitize themselves to social phobia.
The person needs to define and visualize their goals. It is difficult to approach and then overcome a problem unless you have a clear, concrete idea of the goal you’re aiming for. To overcome your social phobia you need to truthfully answer the following question:
• What is the most important positive change I want to make in my life?
• What would a complete change from my present situation look like?
• How will I think, feel and act in my work, my relationships, with others and my relationship with myself once I have made my change?
• Ask yourself what new opportunities will arise have once I have changed your way of thinking.
• Imagine what your life would look like if you were entirely free of your problems.
• Now write a script of how your life would ideally look like when you have taken the initial steps to change your life. Be sure to cover as many different areas of your life as possible.
The initial motivation you have when you first decide to do something about changing your life is usually sufficient to get you started. The real test is in following it through. Are you committed to consistently practicing skills and strategies that work for you over months and sometimes years that it takes to achieve your goal. It is difficult to sustain a high level of motivation over long periods of time “there are no quick fixes”. This has to be done on days even when you don’t feel like it. You keep persisting even after a setback. Perseverance is going to make the difference.
One has to be willing to take risks, otherwise it is not possible to make changes or grow. This means being willing to experiment with new ways of thinking, feeling and acting that may be unfamiliar to you. Provided you are willing to risk trying out new behaviors that may cause you more anxiety at first. Yet which in the long run will be helpful. As in the case of taking responsibility, having support from others who believe in you and back you up will make taking risks considerably easier.
A dependency on drugs, alcohol and tobacco deprives most people of their best health. Read and learn to improve your well-being. Develop and follow healthy eating and living habits. The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, not to anticipate troubles, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly. Caffeine and nicotine can aggravate and leave you more vulnerable to anxiety attacks. You may not even be aware of their impact until you reduce or eliminate them from your life. Sugar and food additives can aggravate anxiety.
Emotions and feelings are both very important in ones part of thinking. Ultimately choices and decisions are based on emotions and feelings. This is a way to link your values to a situation. Strong emotions or feelings may limit your perception. You do need to decide whether you are indeed willing to have your mind changed.
It’s all about social phobia treatment ladies and gents.
Procrastination is putting off the things you should be doing now. Waiting for the right mood or waiting for the right time. Look at the way you organize your work. You may notice other reasons for procrastination such as:
• Lack of clear goals
• Underestimating the difficulty of the task
• Understanding the time required to complete the tasks
• Unclear standards for the task outcomes
And there are also many connections with underdeveloped decision making skills, fear or failure or fear of success as well as perfectionism.
Vision is important as you need to see the big picture and do not get caught in the little picture. Always be clear about goals and priorities. See your own strengths and weaknesses. Cultivate the strengths and minimize the weaknesses. You can overcome prejudice and fear.
This is constantly learning from mistakes and failures and making appropriate adjustments. Good communication begins with you, and then translated to effect communication with others. When we are connected, we do not feel alone because we are communicating. Humans and nature surround us, and the aim is to share this harmoniously.
